The 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge Construction Project at Bandar Upazila Narayanganj.

The Shitalakhya River separates the Bandar Upazila and Sonargoan Upazila from their District Head Quarter at Narayangonj. These two Upazilas are not directly connected by road transport to their District Head Quarter at Narayangonj. The only direct road connection is over Kanchpur Bridge (Shitalakhya-1 Bridge), which requires nearly 30 km of travelling by road to cover a direct distance of 3 to 5 km over the river by bcat crossing currently. A few thousand of people living in Bandar Upazila cross the river Shitalakhya by boat every day for work in Narayangon and Munshigonj. Similarly people from Narayangonj and Munshigonj also cross the river Shitalakhya by boat to come to Bandar or Sonargoan Upazila. The proposed 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge at Bandar upazila, Narayanganj will establish direct road communication between Bandar upazila and Narayanganj district. The proposed 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge is expected to provide a by-pass for a substantial amount of traffic heading for connections to N-1, N-2 and N-8. This proposed bridge will connect Mograpara, Madanpur, Kanchpur and Demra through Madangonj - Syedpur- Mukterpur, Munshigonj - Tongibari - Lohajong and Mawa for onword journey to Khulna, Jessore, Benapole, Mongla, Barisal etc from Dhaka - Chitagong Road (N-1). Dhaka - Sylhet Road(N-2), Dhaka- Mymensingh Road etc.
